Graduate Field Research Awards:
The Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute (LACSI) has financially supported graduate student summer research in Latin America and the Caribbean since 1998. In that time, LACSI has received support from the UGA Office of the Vice President for Research, the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, the Graduate School and the Tinker Foundation, Inc. Nearly 150 students from 10 professional schools, colleges and institutes have received support to travel to destinations throughout Spanish or Portuguese-speaking Latin America and the Caribbean.
The competitive award provides funds for international airfare and/or in-country travel to highly qualified students from any discipline wishing to carry out preliminary doctoral or masters research in Spanish or Portuguese-speaking Latin America and the Caribbean. To submit a proposal, graduate student applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and be sufficiently conversant in the target language to carry out independent research in the LAC region (testing of conversational ability is provided by LACSI and the department of romance languages faculty for non-native Spanish or Portuguese speakers).
