Information for Students:
LACSI offers a B.A. and certificate in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. A graduate certificate will be available in Fall 2011. Since the undergraduate major was established in 2006, the number of active majors has grown from 6 to over thirty. LACSI offers opportunities to achieve a high level of language proficiency, and draws upon a wide range of courses with LAC content from across the university-from anthropology to music, from history to public health. Anthropologist Dr. Sergio Quesada serves as Curriculum Coordinator and works in conjunction with a Curriculum Committee to ensure the coherence of the program. He also teaches the Introduction to Latin American Studies course and the LACS Proseminar, in which students become acquainted with various professors doing Latin American and Caribbean research at UGA. A capstone course in the LACS student's senior year ties the interdisciplinary threads of the program together.
