Call for Graduate Student Applications

The Portuguese Program and the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute (LACSI) at the University of Georgia are pleased to announce the 2026 PORT-LACSI Brazilian Studies Research Grant. The award will support four to five graduate students’ research expenses on Brazil-related topics between April 1 and June 1 of 2026.

Important:
All final supporting documentation and evidence of the planned research activities must be submitted to LACSI by June 1, 2026.

Awards

Four to five awards of up to $250 will be granted to students from any discipline who will engage in research activities or present academic work on Brazil-related topics between April 1 and June 1 of 2026 (final supporting documentation and evidence of research activities must be submitted to LACSI by June 1, 2026).

Eligibility 

All graduate students studying Brazil and currently enrolled in a UGA department, institute, center, or program are eligible and encouraged to apply. 
Proposed activities can take place either inside or outside of Brazil and can involve, among others, fieldwork research, data analysis, writing, or presenting academic work on Brazil-related topics.

Application process

In order to be considered for the grant, students must fill out this form and submit provisional or final supporting materials by the application deadline. A PORT-LACSI faculty committee will evaluate applications and communicate the grant winners of their awards by April 10, 2026.

The deadline to submit the application, including provisional or final supporting materials, is Friday, March 27, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
