Image: Dr. Chad Howe and Dr. Jorge Derpic, LACSI’s Interim Director and Assistant Director, respectively, held an in-person meeting with Argentine sociologist, Dr. Ariel Wilkis (School of Interdisciplinary Advanced Social Studies, EIDAES-UNSAM, Argentina), at the Casa Amarilla on South Hull street, on February 25, 2025. Dr. Wilkis, also a Dean at EIDAES-UNSAM, visited UGA to present his research on the introduction and appropriation of the U.S. Dollar as a currency in Argentina throughout the 20th Century. The meeting was an opportunity to follow up on the plans for inter-institutional scholarly collaboration between LACSI and EIDAES-UNSAM, spearheaded by Dr. Pablo Lapegna (Sociology and LACSI). At LACSI, we are very excited about this alliance and the possibilities it will bring to UGA faculty and students with links to and interests in Argentina, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
